…..gives owner 3 weeks ultimatum to revert to the original development Permit
The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) had sealed up a 10th floor structure under construction for not conforming with the original approval of 6 floors structure granted to the owner, Chief Peter Nwosu by the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) at Block A, Plot 5 to 10, Obanikoro, Oke-Ira Scheme, Somolu L.G.A. of the State.
This was disclosed today by LASBCA General Manager, Arc. Gbolahan Oki during a chat with the press.
Oki stated that though the building has a Development Permit/Approval from LASPPPA and an Authorization to Commence Construction from LASBCA, the owner failed to adhered to the 6 floors structure granted by LASPPPA, adding that additional 4 floors were discovered by LASBCA’s Stage Inspection and Certification Team during their regular site inspection visit.
This act, according to Oki, contravenes the State’s Building Codes and Regulations, hence the seal up.
He also revealed that the owner has forfeited the earlier Development Permit/Approval granted him by LASPPPA due to his non compliance with the regulations, while the letter of authorization to commence construction issued by his agency stands nullified and declared invalid until the needful is done.
The General Manager further stated that 3 weeks ultimatum has been given to the building owner to revert to the original approval granted him by the State Government through LASPPPA by removing the additional 4 floors as the Agency will have no other option than enforcing the laws on non compliance with building regulations.
“The 3 weeks ultimatum given to him by LASBCA is for self removal of the additional 4 floors and also to compel compliance and serve as a deterrent to other building owners/developers who are planning to embark on a journey of non-conformity to the State Building Codes and Regulations” he added.
Oki also reiterated the Agency’s commitment to ridding the State of illegality in the Built Environment as contraveners will be compelled to compliance through strict adherence to the State’s Building Codes and Regulations , a move that he said, would help to reduce the menace of building collapse in the State to the barest minimum.
He also enjoined the general public to report any illegal and non-conforming buildings noticed in their vicinity to LASBCA Offices nearest to them as the Agency is present in all the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs of the State .
