…… Seals over 60 buildings in 3 days

In a bid to rid the State of illegal and non-conforming structures, the Lagos State Building Control Agency has sealed over 60 buildings in 3 days for contravening the state’s building control Laws.

The enforcement team sealed buildings from Ikoyi, Amuwo Odofin, Iba, Eti- Osa, Ogudu and Maryland axis of the state.

According to the Head, Public Affairs Unit of the Agency, Mrs. Adetayo Akitoye- Asagba, the buildings were sealed for different contraventions including failure to respond to statutory notices served, non-conformity with approved drawings, as well as absence of certified professionals on site amongst others.

She also said that during the monitoring exercise, three highly distressed structures  were identified and immediately sealed off to avert collapse at Maryland and Iba area of the state.

Speaking further, she explained that despite the earlier request by LASBCA that the affected property owners respond to notices served, they refused and continued with their unlawful construction disregarding the physical planning and building control laws of the State.

Mrs. Asagba used the opportunity to plead with owners of ongoing construction works in the State to visit the Agency’s offices located in all Local Government /Local Council Development Areas or the Agency’s website for necessary information about the status of their construction works so as not to run foul of the law.

She reiterated the readiness of the Agency to ensure proper inspection and certification at various stages of building construction and verification of all Risk and Building Insurance Policies.

She added that the Monitoring, Enforcement and Compliance activities will be carried out in all areas of the state.

Her words “this enforcement activities will be extended to all areas of the State as we will not relent in our effort to identify and remove non-conforming,  illegal and distressed buildings in any part of the State”
