The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) partnered with The Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) for better physical planning development, to promote and achieve a livable, environmental friendly Smart City status in the State

In a statement signed and released to pressmen today at the Agency Headquarters, Oba Akinjobi way, Old Work yard, GRA,Ikeja when the President of the Institute  paid a courtesy visit to the Agency Headquarters, the General Manager LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki in his address commended the Institute for their visit and their immense contribution to the development of Lagos State through their professional expertise for a well-planned city.

He further stated that LASBCA as an agency that is saddled with responsibilities of checkmating contraventions and quality control in building construction, approval to commerce constructions after obtaining development permit, inspection and certification of various stages of building construction, e.t.c, solicits the cooperation of the Institute for better physical planning of the State to meet the 21st century status and global best practices that will accommodate the ever increasing population of the State.

The National President of NITP who led the entourage, Tpl. Olutoyin Ayinde (FNITP) in his remark applauded the General Manager for his laudable achievements since assumption of office through seamless enforcement of the Agency Statutory responsibilities for the actualization of set goals and objectives through its collaborative efforts with professional bodies in the built industry. In his words, “LASBCA took off during my reign as the Honourable commissioner of Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development (MPP&UD) and I am pleased to see the achievements of the Agency so far most especially under the Leadership of the current General Manager”.

Ayinde who was formerly the Honourable Commissioner for MPP&UD between 2007 and 2015 under Babatunde Raji Fashola’ administration stressed that there should be a better housing system by the government that will take care of the State teeming population housing needs where Town Planners and other professionals in the built environment will come together to put government’s plans and policies into a blueprint that will boost the State’s Smart City Plan and create livable organized settlement.

The president of the Institute who is currently on a nationwide tour to access the state of physical planning across the country said that Lagos State is the 14th State visited and so far the country is yet to have a perfect settlement for its citizenry. Therefore, proper planning is needed by the government to accommodate the inflows of people into the city. For this to be possible the organs of government must come together to achieve results, he said.
