  • LASBCA DEMOLISHES AN ILLEGAL FENCE IN VICTORIA ISLAND

…..and three other illegal buildings in Yaba and Lekki Areas of the State

The Lagos State Building Control Agency’s (LASBCA) bid to rid the State of illegal and non-conforming buildings had demolished an illegal fence built on road setback at 24, Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi, Lagos.

While addressing the media during the demolition exercise on Friday, the General Manager of LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Oki stated that the demolition of the illegal fence was deemed necessary as it will help maintain the road alignment for the completion of the on-going road construction in the area.

He emphasized that the rate at which building owners/developers in the State are flouting the Building Codes and Regulations if not properly checked or nip in the bud will further increase the level of illegality being practiced in the built sector and this is why LASBCA is going all out to enforce compliance.

“LASBCA as an Agency saddled with the responsibility of enforcing compliance amongst the building publics in the State will not relent in its effort in ridding the State of illegality through strict adherence to the State’s Building Codes and Regulations by members in the built environment ” he stated.

Also, two other buildings at 19, Lekki-Epe Expressway, in Eti-Osa area of the State where also partially demolished in order to compel compliance on the part of their owners as one did not conform with the Building Plan Approval given to him by the State Government and the other had no Building Plan Approval from the State respectively.

In another development a four floor critically distressed structure which had earlier been captured by LASBCA as distressed at 319, Herbert Macaulay Street, Sabo, Yaba area of the State was partially demolished so as to pave way for the remaining occupants to evacuate to safety before its total demolition.
