The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and Lagos Building Investment Company Plc (LBIC) met with the residents of Iponri Housing Estate whose buildings were marked for demolition due to their distressed conditions and a two week ultimatum given to them to evacuate at LASBCA’s Auditorium in Ikeja, GRA.

The General Manager of LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Oki emphasized that the main reason for the planned  removal of the distressed buildings was not to witch hunt anybody but for the safety of lives and properties and to reduce the menace of building collapse in the State.

Oki stressed that the Lagos State Building Control Agency is working assiduously with Lagos Building Investment Company Plc inorder to ensure that the affected residents are properly and adequately relocated within the period given for evacuation. This is a move that will help cushion the effect of the eviction on the affected residents.

On his Part, The Managing Director LBIC, Olusola Falaye promised the residents that the company will do everything possible to ensure that they are properly relocated and agreement reached in terms of settlement  as the safety of lives and properties are paramount to the State Government.

Falaye further stated that LBIC will be Partnering together with relevant Agencies in the Built Environment for the Assessment of all the Estates across the State in order to ascertain the structural  stability of buildings to prevent unnecessary collapse in the State.

Also, the Chairman of Surulere Local Government Area, Honourable Sulaiman Yusuf applauded LASBCA’s efforts in tackling the menace of building collapse in the State and the illegality that is going on in the Built Sector of the State and also pleaded that the Original Allotees be given back their buildings after reconstruction.

The Chairman, Community Development Area, Iponri Estate, Ogunlana Abiodun, thanked LASBCA for its swift response towards the affected residents request while imploring the Government to fulfill their promises.

However, an Adhoc Committee was instituted during the meeting which comprises Seven Iponri Housing Estate Stakeholders that will be working directly with the Management of LBIC for smooth relocation and reintegration of the affected residents.
