..Residents applauds controlled demolition

The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) had successfully carried out a controlled demolition of a critically distressed four floors building at No 16, Akinrinola Street, Bariga, where residents applauded the professional conduct of the demolition.

According to the General Manager, LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, who was represented by the Head, Enforcement, Mr. Olusoji Olaopa, the demolished structure failed the NDT showing that it was not structurally stable for renovation or re-modelling hence its removal for safety of lives and properties of the citizenry.

He stated that the demolition was professionally carried out by LASBCA professional team which comprises of Builders, Engineers, Architects amongst others by making sure that the adjoining buildings were not affected and properties and lives of the citizenry protected to the excitement of the residents who applauded the team’s efforts.

Oki further emphasized government’s committed to ensuring that the lives and properties of the general publics are safeguarded by making sure that building owners/developers adhere strictly to laid down rules and regulations and illegality and incessant building collapse are brought to zero level.

He also implored building owners/developers whose properties were among the published 349 distressed buildings to do the needful in order to avert future disaster.

It will be recalled that LASBCA recently published 349 distressed buildings across the State where building owners/developers were mandated to carry out Non-Destructive Test (NDT) on them in order to ascertain their structural stability and the demolished critically distressed building was the 97th on the list of published distressed structures.
