In a bid to avoid building collapse and its attendant effects, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) today demolished a critically distressed four floor structure located at Festac Extension Estate, off Eko Akete Road, Mile 2, Amuwo-Odofin.
Speaking on the demolition exercise, LASBCA General manager, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, stated that before the demolition of the building the Agency had followed due processes by first evacuating all its occupants to prevent loss of lives and serving all necessary notices including a demolition notice on the owner.
Whilst thanking the members of Amuwo-Odofin Community Development Association (CDA) and concerned citizens of the area for being prompt and timely in reporting the distressed building, Oki charged Lagosians to emulate their act and report cases of distressed and defective structures to Lasbca.
He also urged building onwers/developers to always endeavour to do periodic checks and maintenance of their buildings as this will help buildings stand the test of time and curb building collapse in the state.
A member of the community, Miss Anita Ayama expressed the people’s gratitude towards LASBCA and the Lagos State Government for the prompt response and action as the building before its demolition had been a source of concern for the residents because of the danger it posed.
Build well build right….. Lasbca cares.
