…charges participants on work ethics, code of conduct
Officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) have been called upon to be professional in the discharge of their duties and inculcate appropriate work ethics and comportment in their interactions with members of the public.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development (MPP&UD), Engr. Omotayo Bamgboye-Martins made the call on Wednesday during a 2-day in-house training organised for members of staff of the Agency at Oregun, Ikeja.
In order to improve on service delivery, Bamgboye-Martins urged the members of Staff of the agency to be diligent and professional while charging their core duties.
The Commissioner said Repositioning LASBCA For Better Service Delivery was not negotiable, saying that the vision of the agency can only be achieved through right attitude to work and application of good work ethics by the entire workforce.
He emphasized the need for every member of staff to be productive, diligent and responsible in the discharge of duties by adhering strictly to the guiding principles of the civil service and code of conduct of the built industry.
He urged members of staff to official and courteous in addressing issues tabled before them and ensure they are properly treated accordingly in order to boost the goodwill of the agency.
While speaking on the proper way of approaching issues, Bamgbose said members of staff needs to be well dressed and comport themselves accordingly, adding that this would go a long way in promoting their self-esteem.
He advised the participants to always get prepared ahead of challenges that may come their way, stressing that failure to prepare would make them unproductive.
Also speaking at event, the Permanent Secretary, Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Boladele Dapo-Thomas, who was one of the guest speakers at the training, charged the participants to take cognisance of relevant laws guiding them as public servants and as professionals.
She said officers need be productive and result oriented for them to be rewarded for a job well done.
She challenged the participants to do self evaluation by measuring their performances to know whether it meets required standard, stressing that this would boost their morale to always wanting to give their best.
Also speaking at the workshop was Mr. Abiodun Bamgboye, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Establishment, Training and Pension, who treated the topic, ‘Work Dilemma and productivity’ advised members of staff to always strike a balance between personal values, beliefs and work ethics/duties while charging their assigned responsibilities for optimal performance.
The General Manager, LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, on his part, said the in-house workshop was organised for members of staff to ensures total compliance with the work ethics and code of conduct of the agency.
He said for the agency to effectively perform its assigned duties, it must look inward into human capacity development by constantly upgrading the mode of operation to perform effectively and efficiently.
“Restoring LASBCA for better service delivery is our desired goal, not only to ensure our services are important in terms of delivery and interaction to the public but also to achieve the purpose for which the agency was created” he added.
He however urged the participants to take advantage of the worskhop to develop themselves and imbibe right attitude to work.
