… PULLS DOWN SEVEN DISTRESSED BUILDINGS OF 3 AND 2-FLOORS EACH IN MUSHIN
No fewer than 500 occupants of seven distressed buildings in Mushin area of the State have been rescued by Lagos State Building Control Agency, LASBCA, from an imminent building collapse that could claim several innocent lives.
This seven distressed buildings of 3 and 2-floors located at 24 Abiodun Wright Street Itire, 149 Itire road and Nos 1,2,4,6 and 8, Gbadamosi Iginla Street in Mushin were pulled down by officials of LASBCA as a proactive step to avert loss of lives and properties.
Speaking at the demolition
site of the distressed buildings on Thursday in Mushin, the General Manager of the LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Oki, lamented the level of disregard for vacation notices from the agency on different ocassions by occupants of the buildings and others in different parts of the State.
” The administration of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu seriously frowns at avoidable loss of lives and property of residents of the State. It is time for Lagosians to take their safety seriously and avoid putting blames on government at all times.”
Architect Oki, represented at the site of the demolition exercise by the Director and Head of Inspectorate & Quality Control and Post construction Audit, Engr. Khadijah Olayemi Aremo-Ajibade stated that the seven buildings pulled down by the Agency have been served necessary notices
without compliance by the occupants and owners of the structures.
The General Manager who recalled that over 10 distressed buildings have been demolished since the commencement of the exercise earlier this year, informed that the demolition exercise was aimed at averting further loss of lives, saying that all distressed buildings in any part of the State are disasters waiting to happen.
Oki assured Lagosians that the agency will relentlessly continue to pursue its vision and goal of ensuring that all buildings across the State are fit for habitation and constitute no risk to other nearby structures.
He expressed the hope that Lagosians will henceforth cultivate the habit of vacating physically distressed buildings voluntarily even before such buildings are marked by Lagos State Building Control Agency or any other relevant government agencies for demolition.
