…….. Scores General Manager high on performance.
The Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Physical Planning, Honourable Nureni Akinsanya applauded the laudable achievements of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and rated the General Manager, Arc. Gbolahan Oki high on his overall performance with a score of 90%.
Akinsanya disclosed this during the Committee’s oversight /courtesy visit to the Headquarters of the Agency at Works Yard Road, Ikeja, GRA, Lagos.
He stated that the State has recorded less incidences of building collapse due to the relentless efforts of LASBCA at promptly identifying and removing distressed buildings within the State.
The chairman also enjoined the Agency to work more closely with other sister Agencies under the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development for better enforcement of the State Building Codes and Regulations to totally rid the State of incidences of building collapse.
The General Manager, Arc Gbolahan Oki, in his response, appreciated the Committee for their visit as this he said will further strengthen the Agency’s resolve to work harder for the actualization of the set goals/objectives in ensuring that Lagos buildings are safe, secure, healthy and habitable for the people.
He disclosed to the Committee Members that over 30 highly dilapidated buildings out of the 45 distressed structures that were recently published for removal have been removed by the Agency culminating into fewer building collapse witnessed in recent times.
Oki, further reiterated the Agency’s commitment in eradicating quackery in the built industry through the recent launch of the rebranded Certificate for Completion and Fitness for Habitation by that State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
He urged all developers /owners and other stakeholders in the built industry to support the Agency by building according to rules and codes of the State by contacting LASBCA before the commencement of their construction and involving the Agency in every stage of the building process ensuring that they obtain their certificate at the end of their construction.
The meeting had in attendance Honourable Oluwa Fatai, Chairman, House Committee on Tourism, Honourable Kehinde Joseph, Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture, Honourable Sanni Okanlomo, Chairman, House Committee on Education and some Members of LASBCA’s Management Team and Supervising Directors.
